Help Huckleberry!
05.04.2006
Yet another orphan rescued by C.A.R.E. Aged just one year Huckleberry has witnessed the brutal killing of his mother and is suffering from a genetic predisposition that needs to undergo emergency surgery on this eyes for Cataracts
C.A.R.E was founded in 1989 as a rehabilitation centre for injured indigenous wildlife; the Centre is situated on the banks of the Olifants River near to Phalaborwa in the Northern Province of South Africa, bordering the greater Kruger Park area.
No other wildlife facilities were available in the country for the rehabilitation of these orphans, so Rita Miljo, the director, began to develop specific expertise in the nurturing of these animals, and baboons became the prime focus of C.A.R.E.'s work.
Caring for these animals requires patience, compassion, and a calm demeanour.
A positive attitude, willingness to help and learn, and a sense of humour will be essential!
Senior Account Manager, Kelly Warren of Neaves & Neat Employment Services Ltd will be flying out to Phalaborwa for the trip of a lifetime to volunteer at the rehabilitation centre in April 2006 to care for Huckleberry and many more orphans just like him.
Huckleberry’s surgery is estimated to cost a hugely discounted R 3 600,00 (approximately £300) and Kelly’s aim is raise awareness and the funds from local companies and public donations.
